Her vessel was dismasted. It takes a hell of a lot of ocean storm to dismast a vessel designed to survive such things. But, as sailors are wont to tell you, it happens.

The point here is that a 15 year old little girl sailed half way around the world on her own, took on the roughest of the seas, and survived... by the book.

Her critics will say, "See? she failed!"
However, any sailor worth his salt will say, "See, she is a sailor!"
