There are actually several other places in the world where starvation is a major problem, because though it's now much easier to produce food in great abundance than ever before, the fact remains that food remains a commodity that must be purchased and is not disbursed freely as needed. Consequently, those without a lot of money--which is a huge percentage of the global population--have great difficulty acquiring the needed portion of this bounty that they need to eat well. Even in the U.S., it can be difficult to afford a good amount of food, and as a poor person who lives in the U.S., I can attest to this. I easily spend close to $100 a week when it comes to food shopping, and I am a very frugal shopper by necessity.
