We all know that the future is uncertain, but the past can be equally uncertain. Orwell? 1984?
Undoubtedly Eva Ionesco's mother was a strong-willed woman with a willingness to cross boundaries in order to promote herself and her daughter. We can always argue about the morality of this. But unlike the 1970's, society today has a tendency to objectify and 'genitalize' the nude young girl. The iconic quality of the images, obvious then, may no longer be perceived. If so, that is our loss.
There is a deep irony here. Society wants to 'protect' and 'shield' children, yet the child's body has never been more sexualized and degraded than it is today.
I sincerely wish Eva one day sees the images of herself as timeless. We have many alternative futures, but only one past.
