GM fruit

By a lucky coincidence, which shouldn't be read as having elbowed a bunch of sour old hags and shielded a beautiful girl from their stampede, I found myself behind a little blonde girl about 5. Her blue eyes filled with happiness as she reached out and got her orange wedge from the big bowl half filled with them. (Every bowl is half filled when there are sour old hags around). While admiring her, I got myself a wedge too. Disaster struck when the fruit slipped from her grasp, she was but a moment from crying, scared by her mom's yell: "Don't eat it! It's dirty now!"
With a "Here you go, sweetie" I handed her my wedge. She was stunned, as if adults didn't usually care about her happiness, but recovered quickly and gave me a big grin and a "Thank you" as her mom led her away.
Among the cans, I found another lovely blonde. She looked about 10, had large brown eyes, a happy smile showing slightly crooked teeth, and was clad in a white t-shirt, and a pair of shorts a few sizes too small. She caught me looking, gave me a mischievous grin and asked if I wanted some help.
"I could use a can of pinapple. My eyes aren't what they used to be." I winked. It was on the tip of my tongue to say I'd been blinded by her beauty (true), but my internal censor caught up. She climbed a stool, and searched the uppermost shelf.
"The ecological ones?"
"No, I'm looking for a sweeter variety", I said, while savoring the moment.
"I can't find any.", she said shaking her head and her behind, "Perhaps peaches would do? I like peaches". She blushed sweetly.
"How could I resist the advice of such a beautiful young woman?", I whispered.
Grinning, she jumped down. The peaches were located on a shelf near the floor, which had her bend forward and gave me an accidental peek we both enjoyed.
She had just handed me the can, our hands barely touching, when the shaking floor indicated the approach of something hideous. Her mother appeared, and she wasn't pleased by what she saw. She immidiately started bitching at her daughter about the lovely dress: "You'll never wear it in public again. It's unfit for a girl". As she took notice of me, she started to bitch about old men looking at girls, but I cut her off. Anger rose inside me, and overruled fear.
"Look lady", I said working hard but failing to keep the sarcasm out of lady, "I'm nearly blind and sometimes depend on the kindness of strangers. Your daughter was both helpful and kind, a credit to young people, in fact to all people. If she was mine, I'd be proud of her. It is your behaviour that is unfit, not her's."
I glared daggers at the old cow until she looked away, mumbled a semi apology to her daughter and left the isle.
Taking her leave, the girl said "Thanks for helping me", and added with a wink "Some blind men see more than most".
