Look who's looking: a GM.

My day was going to be very busy and long. On my way to work I decided to pre-reward myself with a hamburger and fries. I went to Wendy’s.

I walked into very cool air conditioning and ordered my favorite. I turned with my meal and looked for a clean table. I spotted a couple with a gorgeous 8 year old goddess and her brother. I just had to sit at a table that allowed me to face them. I had tried to memorize her features at the time, but upon trying to write now about what little detail I managed to remember, I realized it was just her face and stare that got recorded in my tiny memory. I know I tried to memorize the color of her jumper/shirt and frilly skirt – a skirt that posed every so enticingly across her thighs and legs folded underneath her in her seat. What remained etched (so far) in my mind was those blondish eyebrows above shockingly blue eyes.

I wear a set of aviator’s wings on my shirt that, perhaps, made me look like a police officer or some such official: the beautiful blonde flashed her eyes at me, took a bite of her salad, and flashed her blues at the pin on my chest. She glanced up to see me regarding her with a glance of my own. She quickly returned to her salad.

Mom and brother got up, kissed the Dad, mentioned some sort of errand they had planned. They left Dad and Daughter together alone. Well, except for surreptitious me.

I am careful with my eyes but I caught the little straggly haired angel sneaking a furtive peek at me again. Again, at my pin. Then at my eyes returning the glance. Quickly, again she turned back to her salad.

As her conversation went on with Dad, she insisted on stealing a glance at me. Or, as it was obvious now, at my aviator’s pin. Did she know what it was? Was I a big bad cop or what?

I tossed the idea around in my relatively empty head that I might just offer a stare at her when she tried for another flash at my pin. But her repetitive glimpses followed by a quick check to see if I was looking her way had instilled in me the same desire to not be caught.

I finished my meal, took my tray to the empty stack, catching those beautiful blue eyes tracking me. No glimpse, this time. She was studying my pin. I had thought to take it off and give it to her, but the Dad was chattering away at her. I headed out towards the door and we parted stares. I, on my way into work, her back to her reality with her Dad.

Not much of a girl moment, but worth sharing with you.
