Kids appreciate being treated as equals. It doesn't take long for them to realize you 'aren't like other adults' when you do. I've made quite a few connections with girls this way, even some that I only ever had one encounter with. I recall one lovely afternoon I spent with a girl a few years back; we had only just met, but we talked for hours about everything from Star Wars to the Beatles. Yes, she was 6 years old, and was a Beatles fan. While I assume most adults would pat her on the head dismissively and send her on her way, I found her fascinating: smart, funny and gorgeous!
