A father (or mother) who does not show their daughter (or son) love and affection is going to make the child likely have issues. Children learn how to act around the opposite sex very much from their opposite sex parent.

It is almost a rule that when a girl has a pushy, jerky, authoritarian dad that she seeks out the same in a partner. At least, of course, in my experiences.

Not to mention people who don't really know love have some odd idealistic view of how it should be. When it can come in all forms including a man and his little girl friend.
