In my four years as B4U-ACT's administrative assistant, I've collected 65 pieces of "Fan Mail" -- by and large from private (and, pudding-be-proof, mildly educated) citizens. The vast majority of mental health professionals who decline workshop invitations do so by ignoring the invite completely or, at best, replying with variations on "Please unsubscribe me from this mailing list." B4U-ACT has amassed quite an extensive contact database in the past eight years, of which the workshop invitee list represents a mere fraction. (In an effort to guard against journalistic and/or vigilante infiltration, we're very selective about whom we notify.)

B4U-ACT volunteers are under no delusions as to the dearth of mental health professionals willing to hear us out. We take turns shouldering each other through bouts of "Everybody hates us!" defeatism by reminding each other that few allies are better than none. B4U-ACT might suffer a shortage of friends, but such is the fate of having high standards.
