I read the concern expressed by Baldur down in the lower thread that "feo" in Spanish means "ugly." Okay, this is what I think.

I don't think we need to go all the way back to the drawing board for another term yet again, because language is so complex amongst different spoken tongues that no matter what we come up with, we are almost bound to result in an offensive term in some language if translated literally. But all linguists and multi-lingual people are aware that you cannot properly translate from one language to another in a literal sense (too bad the creators of online translation engines do not seem to acknowledge this).

I am confident that Spanish speakers in our community and in the outside professional world are well aware that the prefix "pheo" taken from the Greek language does not denote something "ugly" simply because it may be pronounced the same way as "feo," and I like to think they can come up with an alternate transliteration of the word in their language that compensates for this, resulting in a unique Spanish term that works to convey the proper intended meaning for Spanish-speakers. Baldur even suggested how they may use the spelling "fio" instead of "feo," but there are likely many other alternatives too.

I'm not sure what would ultimately work best for Spanish-speakers in this instance, as I do not speak the language myself, but I am confident that there are more than enough intelligent Spanish-speakers out there who can make a viable alternative translation from Greek to Spanish so as to properly convey the intended Greek meaning we loosely adopted.
