Yes, and that turned out so well for us, didn't it? Look what's happening now--the mental health community is trying its damnedest to pathologize what is essentially a normal adult male reaction to the pubescent female body (or pubescent male body if one is gay). And guess what term they are trying to incorporate into the DSM? It wouldn't be 'hebephile' would it? Why yes, it would be. Thank you ever so much deary for proving my point.

So ignoring that type of preference would have been better? So that every guy who had it could continue to feel alone, and to wonder if they are "sick," and to have less of an opportunity to form a sense of identity and pride in themselves for having that natural attraction base, since they now knew they were a distinct minority?

And guess why your argument really falls flat? Trying to incorporate a natural but socially 'unacceptable' attraction base like hebephilia into the DSM resulted in...what? A huge amount of support from the scientific community, or even the media? I guess you conveniently overlooked all the negative scrutiny brought down on the competency and intentions of the small work group penning the DSM-5, not by members of this community alone, but by many legitimate scientists and mental health specialists, and reported diligently by journalists, over the suggestion of bringing hebephilia into the DSM? Wasn't homosexuality originally in the DSM? Did that result in permanent devastation for the LGBT community? No, it was eventually removed, and that brought a good degree of scrutiny down on the DSM, and made it quite clear to many scientists and laymen alike that many decisions for diagnostic inclusion in the DSM are based on politics and cultural biases connected to legal and moralistic issues, not science.

This type of scrutiny and questioning needed to be brought down on those who pen the DSM volumes, and I am really proud that hebephilia was one of the terms to do it. That tome will never have the degree of respect it has had in the past after this, unless major changes are made in who have input into it, and on what basis.
