Taking the side that empirical evidence suggests is objectively true is better than waffling between both sides of a matter just to come off as "balanced." I think the quest for objective truth is more important than a quest for "balance" between two conflicting viewpoints.

And that, Dissident, is why you don't work for the FCC.


Apart from that, no, devil's advocate is a valid technique. It doesn't mean that it's always adequate; and yes, can end up making your own positions unclear. But it is a valid technique. You should try it sometime.
