expectations

Just to be clear:

My expectations as a moderator: that all participants will abide by the posting rules (no problem so far).

My hopes as a member of the community: that everyone will also be civil and perhaps even polite and encouraging. (You have a few rough edges, but are basically sound.)

I do not expect any ass kissing, and I wouldn't even want that. If Andrew isn't tough enough to deal with a little distrust here, he shouldn't be pursuing this line of inquiry anyway.

As for his playing "devil's advocate" - I know a therapist in real life (personally, not professionally) who asks similar questions. In their case I see it as an intellectual exercise, or perhaps as a way to judge another person's thought processes, rather than their conclusions. At worst, it might be their literal-mindedness and difficulty with intuitive thought. Sometimes this person wants to find out the reasons why others believe something to be true - even when they believe it to be true themself. Don't make too much out of it.
