The guy lived in Rhode Island, and he drove and flew several times all the way to California just to be with this girl. Picture that - he crossed the country several times for a girl. Has anyone of you ever done that? Would anyone of you ever do that? (for the purpose of this question, assume sex or not, legal or not, as you wish, that is not my point). If he was a rapist, he had way more opportunity, and way less traceability (the traceability that bills for crossing the country, whether gas stations or airports, give you), if he had raped a girl in Rhode Island or neighboring states. If he was a rapist, he had even the chance to kill her in California and come back; or to try to kidnap her to bring her home to RI. But no, he didn't care about geographic distance and covered it several times, even though it involved a great deal of risk, it left him extremely vulnerable to entrapment, and it's just too damn cumbersome and expensive...
To me, this is a huge hint that this all was consensual. In some respects, even more than her own behavior when she was 12.
