Actually, we aren't open to just anybody from the public. We do require registration. And we assume that those registering will look into our Rules and FAQ ( which already delineate what we mean by "decorum." ) Heck, we expected them to do so even before registration was a requirement.
So are we a board for the public? No. FAQ1 clearly states;
"GirlChat is an online community for girl lovers, i.e. people who are physically and emotionally attracted to young girls. As guests, GirlChat welcomes friends, researchers, curious non-girl lovers and respectful opponents."
We welcome guests, but we aren't here FOR our guests.
We are throwing a house-party. But while its a party for the guests, its also a house.
It would be rude of the guests to complain about the LG-motif wallpaper, the Jackie Evancho on the turntable and the Olsen Twins oeuvre on the big-screen. What did they expect when they read the invite?
Further, during a previous spate of activist posting and proselytizing, the Mods had to remind folks from time to time that GC is not an activist site.
There have been sites specifically designed for outreach to the community. But GC isn't one of those. And while our multipurpose approach allows for celebrating GirlLove, being a community for GLers and allowing "queer-friendly" guests, we can't be so concerned with the feelings of the guests that we transform the house into a meeting hall, or the party into a lecture podium where we must listen with equal respect for views opposing GL.
We need to keep in mind that those who want to use GC to promote outreach activity can do so as guests. But that even if this is an expression of their interests as GLers, that this is not the raison d'etre for GC.
And, quite frankly, I'm disappointed to see folks trying to beat a GLer into submission for being somewhat hostile. They've had more than enough of their say, and at this point the attempt to convert one soul is overshadowing the arrival and voice of the new str8 guest.
It does a disservice to their faith in their cause that they cannot suffer a few people to hold a grudge against a profession with a long recorded history of being an instrument of our community's oppression.
It does a disservice to the guest they champion to allow him to be drowned out by endorsements of himself.
And it does a disservice to our community to treat every GLer in it as if they chose, by coming to a house-party for GLers, to become a public spokesperson to the Non community. That's not what GC is here for. And that's not why most of GC signed-up.
