That is a very big issue in this case. We are not even talking of an established sexual relationship where the doubt is whether it was consensual or coerced, but not whether it happened. Here the doubt is, itself, whether it happened. Short of a video (which is nonexistent) I can't see any way in which we can ascertain that "X is molesting my daughter" was a reasonable perception on the part of the father, and I can see many ways in which reasonable people can misperceive that. Kids that have gone lost have died of cold in wintry days because nobody would pick them up for fear of being accused of molestation - so obviously people can be perceived as molesters even with nothing of the sort having happened. Why are we so sure that the father saw what he thinks? For all I know, the man could have accidentally slipped on a patch of sauce and fallen over the girl, who predictably screamed, probably a bit hurt, surely at least surprised and a little spooked, but not in any real danger (not even the "danger" of Sexualization). And for all I have seen of this world, a lot of people, not just the uber liberal and libertarian world of GC and BC, would giving the same benefit of the doubt I am giving had the Piece of Collateral Damage been accused of anything other than child molestation. (See: Trayvon Martin. Gosh, even al Awlaki got more positive media coverage!)
