"It's not your parent's fault"

Among the Jews, there is a rite of passage called Mitzvah (Bar Mitzvah for the boys, which takes place on their 13th birthday, and Bat Mitzvah for the girls, which occurs on their 12th birthday).

In this ceremony, the Jew says:
"I am no longer a child; I accept responsibility for my actions. Any wrong I do is my fault; not the fault of my parents."

Perhaps our culture needs something similar.
