Well, essentially they believe that Satan opposed God because of his own pride, and leads humanity astray; but they analogize it to the advanced student who feels the teacher has become unnecessary. Satan's sin is pride, not "evil" in a more general sense. But it means that by trying to rule the world, Satan is also making humans aware of their free will and its consequences when used for evil, (something that would not happen had Satan been destroyed when leading Adam and Eve astray) so on Judgment Day humans will be able to choose worship of God, and choose it both freely and informed by all the previous history.
Of course, next they complicate it with their very complex prophesies about the end of the world. But that's the essence of it. Quite like yours, in my view.
