I apologize for how my post came off. I maybe should have been more clear, considering my history on the board.

To answer your first question: yes! As a Jew, as gay, as whatever, it is important for ethnic, social, cultural, sexual minorities to understand the propaganda that has historically and systemically oppressed populations. I was in no way endorsing this movie is good, or accurate, or fair, or real, or empathic, or anything. I was interested in your reactions precisely because I knew that it is an extremely problematic depiction of whatever it was depicting.

The list that I wrote "pedophilia/minor-attraction/boy love/sexual abuse/rape/kidnapping" refers to the ways in which that viewers/society can construe minor-attraction or anything that even remotely resembles it. In the film, the man has sexual contact with a child. He also kidnapped him. In reviews of the movie he is referred to as a "pedophile" incorrectly and broadly. In consuming the film, people are conflating "pedophile" and "monster" and "child molester" and everything in that list. I am not saying that GL/BL/MAPs are monsters. Of course not. I think that what I wrote before in my introduction makes this explicitly clear.

Reviewers of the film clearly are not equipped to critically think about any of these issues. I wanted to discuss this mostly because of the way that this film reflects and conjures widespread harmful cultural/societal views on pedophilia etc. It is an interesting text that could provide interesting discussion about the way that any sort of sexual contact with a child / whatever / is represented in culture..

I apologize once again that this came off wrong in my initial post. I didnt not mean to say that I think that GLers are rapists. I would like to think that I can eventually gain your trust so as to not arouse suspicion.
