The idea of Satan as prideful and thinking he can do better than God is pretty orthodox, but there is some tension with the equally Biblical assertion that Satan knows he will fail and will be doomed.

My interpretation suggests that Satan knows he is doomed but also knows he is playing a necessary part in the development of humanity, and even made the choice knowing that it would result in his own death but the survival of at least a part of humanity. The idea that Satan's actions are necessary to the development of humanity seems to be what you find similar to Witness theology.

(Of course, I don't take all this literally - but I find it interesting to consider the motives in such a story, which reflects plenty of true human history.)
