I can certainly appreciate it as a piece of art in and of itself, as I thought I would going in, but it really has VERY little to do with us. I consider it to be more of a portrait of a sociopath, than of a pedophile. A sociopath who also happens to be a pedophile, but the main point is that he's a sociopath, and that's the main reason why he's a problem in our society. Just as some people have pointed out that The Sopranos, once you get past the gangster glitz and all that, is really a portrait of a sociopath underneath. I felt much the same way about this film.

I have a brother who's a career criminal and has been clinically diagnosed as having an antisocial personality. Just like some of the behavior/thinking of Tony Soprano reminded me of my brother, there were also some things shown in this movie that reminded me of his mindset. Things like using people purely for one's own gain, while having little to no empathy for their feelings. I'm a pretty empathic person, like most of us here are, and that's an aspect of the movie that we really cannot personally relate to.

So while this was an interesting movie to watch in and of itself, I feel it was a bit misguided to bring it up on this board in the context that it was introduced here. It has about as much to do with "our issues" as the Jeffrey Dahmer bio-pic had to do with "gay issues". And honestly, if I introduced that topic in that manner on a gay message board, I'd probably get banned for trolling. I'm not suggesting that Andrew was trolling here, and certainly not that he should get banned. I just thought that was an apt comparison to point out.
