In most western countries where individual freedoms are a primary focus, we do not have it so bad. I am proof of that. I was convicted and sentenced to prison for what society considers something that I deserve to be killed for. In fact, even people here would detest what I did. Yet, I was not killed. Afterwards, they did not hunt me down and torture me. In fact, while in their prisons, I was not tortured at all. I was well taken care of. Many people would say that was unfair.

Yes, many of society's rules and such are not applied to our freedoms if we have chosen to violate those rules, but most are. I have twisted some of these rules without breaking them to use them against society's wish to control me beyond what I think would be acceptable to me. So, today, I am virtually a free man, unencumbered by my horrid past. But that is not my point.

I have not been burned at the stake, tied up and thrown into a lake to see if I will sink or float, nor had my fingernails pulled from my fingers. Yes, people would WANT to hurt me, but I have managed to live comfortably by not rubbing their collective noses in my past.
