Agreeing that people who write to an agony aunt deserve the bad advice they get by approaching someone with zero knowledge of them...

I would say that, going by the sender's letter, it pretty much hints that it was not abuse, only reinterpreted as abuse and that any harm here is sociogenic. Presumably the girl was much more (at least, much more often) "abused" and yet she turned out better than all right; while the sender is the one who hasn't.

This is not to, then, say that they need to sleep together to reconnect, although I recognize that'd be poetic justice; but the agony aunt really really gets it backwards.
