The author of the letter said there was abuse. The opinion of the childhood friend is nowhere mentioned. So, as I said, perhaps the childhood friend never perceived any abuse - and perhaps there wasn't any.

"Youthful sex-play is not always seen as abusive and you know this."

It depends on the jurisdiction, but in the Anglophone countries, in cases where one partner is significantly older, the current dogma and the law claims that such sex play is always abuse.

"I just think there is too little information given just to say forget it all and carry on regardless."

True - and given the dearth of information, the advice columnist was too quick to judge.
