I think BB was being very condescending, was he implying that every autobiography is fiction and the events described did not occur as reported? He was simply citing generalisations as if they apply in 100% of cases when this is not always true. I have recollections of numerous events going back to about two years of age, mostly being short snapshots of what occurred but in essence they are still "crystal clear" to me and have not changed over the years. Perhaps my use of "crystal clear" was misleading but to me it means that the event truly occurred as remembered, can be visualised and often the feelings and affects of that event can be recalled also. Many of these events were either quite traumatic or involved a special occurrence - my first kiss for example or a physical injury or near death experience and I can recall quite vividly my particular episodes of sexual abuse. I wrote about lots of these incidents some time ago and many of them have been entirely verified by others involved, either being family, friends or others and by later correspondence. Only one incident, not particularly important although it was in a dangerous situation, caused some slight differences in our accounts between a close friend and myself and it is my particular version most likely to be the true one since there are lots of good reasons for it being so and little for the other version. I can distinctly remember my thoughts at the time which would verify my version since it would not make sense otherwise. I perhaps know why it was thought different by my friend and have seen alterations in others remembered accounts too. I do realise that I might make mistakes with my recall but it has rarely been the case. I probably do have a particularly good memory (often relied on in exams) and although we are all prone to mismanage our memories mine has been very reliable as to events in my past. I presume many others also do remember vividly much of their past life with sufficient accuracy as to be reliable even though the weight of evidence is against them.
