Not to downplay your memories, and of course I can't speak to your memories as opposed to the memories of others ... but besides our problematic memories we humans also have significant problems interpreting the actions of others. Sometimes an action intended to show respect is taken as a sign of disrespect - simply due to different perspectives, whether they be cultural or personal.

If you have had these memories since childhood they are probably generally accurate (though they may include misinterpretations you made at that time and some other smaller errors), but if these memories "came back to you" at a later date, there is a good chance that they did not happen as you remember.

I see these things happening every day in real life situations, so I know that both faulty memories and misinterpretations are common. At least for some of my memories I have photographic proof and accounts I wrote down at the time.
