I do not see myself as particularly prudish in any manner and I have my own take on life rather than what might be pushed by any perceived societal influences or from any other source. I have nothing against pleasure in itself but I do think that much of Western culture at least is geared around maximising the pleasures of the population, often from a control aspect (TV, media etc.), for no other reason than for commercial enterprises to make huge wads of cash. It is constantly sold to us via advertising such that people are made to feel guilty if they are perceived to not have enough of whatever it is that everyone else has. This is one reason I do actually dislike American culture and feel much more at home in Europe. I simply hate advertising - the USA appears to be awash in it and if there was any other way for a culture and society to operate then it might just appeal.
