In the "ie" or "ei" pairing, English speakers merely pronounce the last letter by name.

Justin Bieber rhymes with believer because the combo is pronounced like the letter "E."

Whereas if you say zeitgeist as "zite-guyst" by pronouncing the letter "I" then you will also remember to spell it with the "I" at the end.
