The problem is that since fake memories are easy to create, it becomes impossible to tell between a good authentic recollection, and a good implanted false memory. Of course, authentic memories have some problems too, but mostly of perception upon the event - whichever thing you got wrong at the beginning is what you are likely to get wrong later. Deformation post facto is possible but less likely. Although, as Baldur pointed out, change of opinion about what happened is more than possible, but need not involve a change in recollected events.
