"Ghod" is old-school Science Fiction fanspeak. And yes, while its not contemptuous, it does indicate a lack of subscription to the concept.

"Ghu" has alternately been used. But "Ghu" is also apparently the name of a fannish Ghod too.

And yes, by the 50s some fen ( plural for "fan" in fannish ) were so enamored of the frothy brown intoxicant that they proposed capitalizing and adding the "religious" "H" to beer; thus "Bheer."

And if I can do my part to sew fannish into another context, so be it.

( Many of the terms associated with Golden Age SF fanzines were imported into the punk-rock "zine" movement [ including "zine." ] And some of our internet acronyms also come from Sci-Fi wonks via their mimeo zines. [ The Internet is not the first thing requiring emoticons or their equivalent to give context. ] )
