And that is why I intentionally mentioned Szasz; who was right there arguing that homosexuality was not a disease and that saying so was just wrapping a religious concept in pseudo-scientific medical language.

So no, criticism of MHPs in terms describing them as a cultural manifestation is anything but recent.
