Until we (they) can arrive at what exactly causes someone to be sexually attracted to children then we cannot say what it is. I view it as being a fault in development since it makes more sense to me than any other possibility. I am not here to promote this view to others. I simply state that is what I believe.
And not too long ago, it was argued that homosexuality was a result of a "fault" in development, because any type of attraction that would not lead to procreation made "no sense" to many. Yet homosexuality, like pedophilia, has been observed in intelligent animal species like bonobos (our closest genetic relatives in the animal kingdom and primate genus) and the cetaceans. So I do not think your beliefs, like those previously pointed at homosexuality, are based in any way on science, but rather on your personal sensibilities and contemporary systems of popular cultural belief. I think such things are judged by too many people based on how they fit in with modern established power structures in society, rather than what they may contribute to the human species from the standpoint of evolutionary biology.
