The obligatory Thomas Szasz reference

Maybe, maybe not.

But you sure do prize a branch of "medicine" dealing with the intangible.

Szasz would reduce all psychology to neurobiology. The misfiring brain of the epileptic is a measurable thing. Its defective function shows up on the EEG. The same EEG is used to monitor the success of treatments where applicable ( as it exists across a spectrum of causes, only some of which are treatable. ) But a brain which periodically fires electricity at random is a physical phenomenon.

You, on the other hand, are appealing to the sphere of religion. Religion formerly claimed epilepsy ( as demonic possession. ) But it appeals to some motivating force within which cannot be localized or demonstrated in an EEG, CAT scan, or at autopsy. Instead of calling it "soul" this vague psychology calls it "mind." And discusses "defects" in its functioning without actually talking about a defect within the physical body.

And yes, sometimes there is an attempt to link aspects of the "mind" to some vague superficial measurements; but the "gay brain" studies strike me more as a pseudoscience ( Phrenology in drag, ) than as actual neuroscience.

Thus far what neuroscience seems to have taught us, is that there are more people turned on by children than are willing to admit it to themselves. :)

Anywho, I will leave discussions of "flaws" in the non-physical to you religious types.
