However, your belief about others should in no way prevent those others from their own choices about what is advocated.

You can believe that if I read Naked Lunch, I'm imperiling my immortal soul. But you have no right to prevent me from reading, based on your belief.

And if you are going to persuade anyone that the act is harmful, then you're going to have to do a lot more than assert your right to say what you believe. You're going to have to demonstrate how it harms me, and that the harm outweighs the benefits, and that the harm is not specific to a single context or individual, but is Universal. ( Otherwise we confiscate your Honey because its dangerous for newborns to eat. Or take away all skateboards because Dante has a cr*ppy sense of balance. [ But then where would Dante find the hot bare chested 13 year old sk8tr-boyz? ] )

Its called the marketplace of ideas. And ideas aren't a zero-sum game. If even one freely choses to do that which harms no other, then they can act however they wish regarding whatever has been advocated. Their bliss in no way imperils yours just because it differs from yours.

Dante
