Here is the size of America's "defense" (i.e., military budget) compared to the other nine biggest national military budgets across the globe:

The high U.S. health care expenditures are not due to more quality health care for patients, or because patients in the U.S. use hospital services more than people from other First World countries; quite the contrary. U.S. health care expenditures are so high simply because medications and health services such as surgery are extremely expensive here compared to other First World nations, and there are no price controls or regulations in the American health care system due to the heavy amount of for profit services that work through the government, not in opposition to it (remember, Obamacare, which will now include price controls on insurance companies among many other things, still will not include anything like universal health care, or even a "public option").

There is no doubt that America has by far the most bloated military expenditures in the world (Romney wants to up the defense budget to 2.1 trillion if elected), and high health care expenditures do not go into better or more readily available care for common citizens, with close to 40 million completely uninsured.
