It is an unfortunate consequence of living in our heavily populated societies that freedoms are not absolutes and never will be.

Freedoms cannot be absolute, true, but they can and should be as extensive as possible in a constitutional democracy. Accordingly, there are no freedoms more important to protect and preserve under such a system than freedoms of speech, expression, and access to information.

We will always have to make compromises.

But only so far. And as I have often said, there is a huge difference between compromises and being compromised.

If you do not wish to comply with what the rest of us have to comply with then either suffer the consequences or buy your own deserted island and leave out your dream there - plenty available I hear.

The problem is, that the USA and Britain loves to push their moral leanings on every other nation in the world, and that means it would eventually get to those small sovereign island havens we may hypothetically create. So, if we do not like the laws in a society that purports to be democratic and based on civil liberties over that of "security" first and foremost, our best option is to oppose unjust laws by working within that system, and fight for change. That is how progress occurs in such systems, my newest friend. If you don't like the changes that occur because they aren't draconian enough for you when it comes to your personal issues, then you can always learn to adopt a "live and let live" philosophy and learn to accept that there are going to be images and lifestyles in society that you find personally offensive. That will save you many ulcers and stress, and it will save many innocent people whom you disagree with from doing jail time and having their lives ruined in an actual demonstrable way.
