Santa Clause is a perfect example.

To willingly lie to a child, and take pleasure in the child's belief in the lie.

There are enough opportunities for a child to become disenchanted without instilling in them a belief in something which you know isn't true.

My folks both remember the point when they realized they'd been lied to. And decided that the other positive aspects of the Yuletide wouldn't be diminished by removing a huge lie from their midst.
