For one thing, I don't see parental rights as an end in itself -- it's a means to the end of the best compromise in formulating real-life rules we can use to maximize the well being of all.

Next, the right answer for many decisions is not symmetric. The default position is to not do an activity. For instance, either a child or a parent can veto skydiving. Both must agree for it to go forward.
