It has long been the case in France that all "good cooking" was a male profession.
When the family is so poor that they dine on turnip soup; that's prepared by the wife. If they're lower middle class and can only afford a few servants the butler/footman/groundskeeper is a man and the maid/nanny/cook is female.
But if they can afford a kitchen staff, they are supervised my a male chef. If they can dine out, the establishment is presided over by a male chef.
But you are certainly right about a distain for traditional housekeeping roles f*cking up the democratization of cooking. What should've become accessible at the top-levels apres feminism became an avoided symbol of the past.
If the gays had given up fashion design, and the Blacks avoided Blues ( and Rhythm ) where would we be? ;p
