Children do listen to me much more especially when my request or advice is reasonable. However the are less likely to listen if I am being unreasonable. This is why I feel most adults don't want to be respectful and more equal with kids. It's because their ridiculous demands they often give would be largely ignored. When most people complain about kids, it is generally their own fault. From my observations.

Paedosexuals, as RainbowLoom states, might be able to form a closer and more special bond. However anyone can be respectful with children and near equal with them. Like you say, it can be learned and often is. I know it was for me.
