There is certainly some of that here and even I have been surprised at some of the posters succumbing to it. I think it is a natural reaction as we get plenty of criticism everywhere outside of this board and over time we tend to think of this board as our home where we can feel relatively safe. That said, it is not desirable and when posters were reminded that this is a forum for everyone who can stay within the rules I think most have more-or-less behaved.

It is a delicate balance trying to find that spot where wide open and vital discussions can be had without devolving into senseless bickering, and it necessarily entails banning some especially insensitive sorts and allowing some sensitive souls to depart on their own. I wish it were different but I don't see how, as any topic more controversial than the weather is likely to offend somebody - yet these topics still need to be discussed. I do, however, hope that you will not be dissuaded from posting here (within the rules, of course). We need as many fair-minded participants as possible.
