As you can imagine, someone else proposed it as a sarcastic rejoinder. Despite the degree to which it is unrelated and off-topic, I doubled down maintained a reasonable position, and replied that empathy and, perhaps more importantly, listening skills were far more important.

The people who responded were not sociopaths... and that is why they responded positively. Valuing and legitimating personhood of life, rather than sorting "humanity" and "inhumanity" by labels... is valued.

Sometimes, one has to be unpopular to be popular - and often, having a firm and consistent stand is more valued, even when everyone actually does think you're wrong, than trying to give the "right" answer.

Above it all, though, I can tell you that a silent, coward-but-sweet majority actually does like simple raw empathy.
