Traditionally, such panels are used to coerce from a child an activity they do not want but which has been deemed in their interest; such as forced removal from a parent, invasive medical procedures &tc.

Unless her choice is a factor, it doesn't sound much different from some secularized version of a council of elders gathering to discuss how it is long past time that the girl was married-off for her own good.

I'm with Edward Snowden on the idea of not tolerating tools of "support" that are a formula for oppression on the grounds that they will only be used for good. Because such tools have always fallen into the hands of bad agents.

Her body, her choice is the only real safeguard.
