qtns is correct that nuclear is pretty safe, and greener than all the other traditional power sources. Even considering nuclear accidents, our response tends to be overly conservative and mostly not necessary.

However, I don't think he has kept up with developments in other power sources in the past five years. We have a lot more options now, and the new developments just keep coming. Many developments in solar, new types of wind power, new types of energy storage, residential fuel cells, flow batteries, solar roads, significant developments in nuclear fusion (which produces less radiation than a single x-ray), space-based solar, and far more. There simply won't be much need for further development of nuclear fission, because we will have so many better options available.
