... one of the things we need to consider is sometimes, we in the MAP community can become our own worst enemies. Like all groups of human beings, we will make mistakes and missteps, and some of these will, very unfortunately, take the form of jumping on a new trend that is an extremely bad idea, but which will sound "good" to even some very intelligent people in the community who nevertheless do not put a lot of thought into things at times.

And also unfortunately, some people in our community--including some of the most brilliant among us--have a tendency to make a series of such wince-inducting mistakes on a periodic basis. They just do not think wisely at times despite their great degree of smarts, just as there are many brilliant people who lack good decision-making skills in certain specific areas (e.g., making shopping lists, dealing with money, remembering important info, knowing the right thing to say in certain situations, etc.).

This newest tendency needs to be opposed with all due vigor, and I'm glad I have the support of you, Tom, and some others. I hate having to oppose people I like and respect, and whom I have even often looked up to, but I will do so if absolutely necessary. And this is of absolute necessity, since this particular bandwagon needs to have its traveling license revoked as quickly as possible before it does some really serious damage to our community.
