Fledgling book

I recently read "Fledgling" by Octavia Butler, and thought of you guys. Why? Because it's a book about a little girl vampire who wakes up with no memory of her past life. She slowly regains some memories, though only names of things and facts and some feelings. Anyway, what made me think of you guys is that she takes a human man and then some human women as lovers. There's one scene wherein she has sex with the guy; the book doesn't show much of it but some of the biting and enough to get the point across that yes, they're having sex.

The kind of vampire she is (a species called the Ina, pronounced eye nuh) don't kill except for regular human reasons, as they prefer to bond with multiple humans to feed from them a little at a time. As it later turns out, they're not undead either, just extremely long lived and with a very long childhood. She turns out to be 53 years old, but is still a child who looks no older than 12 because of their long lifespans and long childhoods.

Something else about them is that bonding with an Ina extends human life as well. Not as long as they live, but a couple centuries of a good healthy life. Assuming you don't get murdered by a rival family, of course. Which is rare, even though that's the main conflict of the story.

See, her species are usually pale, but she's a generic experiment and has human DNA mixed in to turn her skin black so she can be awake and out in the sun during the day; they're usually catatonic during the day, and burn in the sun. She does get burned by the sun too, but not nearly as much as they normally do.

I would love to be bonded with an Ina child! I don't know how old they have to be before they can start taking human lovers/symbionts, but even assuming it's eighteen or twenty, that's at least thirty or forty years of sex with a lovely child whose species and culture allow them to be willing and able. Granted, you're bonded for life and if she gets murdered you too will die unless you can be taken over by another Ina, but they're usually peaceful, and you get to live for two hundred years or so while they feed you and clothe you. Also you still get to have a life outside the commune, in fact they encourage it since they can't exactly have a regular nine to five job, and still have to buy things. And sure, if you're monogamous you will have a problem being one member of a polyamorous marriage, but if hey, I'm already poly and bisexual, I don't mind. Also, you get to sleep around with other humans if you want; not sure if human children raised in those communities can also have sex or not. But if not, oh well. I'm still game!

I might write fan fiction of this story!
