Planned or not, if they had had no firearms do you think they would have revealed themselves, or would they have tinkered with their explosive devices until they worked?

What is the obvious first step? The invading army? That's the only thing I can figure you mean, and that implies that you think the United States has already been conquered by an enemy that wishes to slaughter the American people. Considering the success of various collectivists in infiltrating institutions and taking control of state power, you may be right, but all that would mean is that it is already time for the people to attack the government's enforcers, not that it is time to give up and die.

In fact, the Austrian did not disarm the population. He only disarmed those he wished to eliminate.
