I'm not such a movie buff as others here. I haven't watched all his works by any chance. I didn't particularly like Amadeus all that much. I loved Cuckoo's Nest, but the ending is, while not truly happy, too happy to me for such a gloomy film. Flynt also ends on too good a note (though that was historically accurate). But still, those three are films I would definitely keep on my repeat watch list. As a refugee (a true refugee like used to be) from a country which no longer exists, the Czechoslovakia, he was acutely aware of the higher degree of artistic freedom the West granted to him and all his colleagues in the arts. Freedom of speech is there to protect the ideas which are uncomfortable. Those ideas that everyone can agree upon need no protection. We seem to have forgot this. We GLers. We Pedos. Often the West entire. |
