The times we live in perhaps?

I was thinking of other times / other cultures where elders were revered and many people hung on their words like dreams. Crazy I guess to hope for that today.

I knew a very old woman that very seldom talked. No one talked to her; they knew she couldn’t hear and figured it was too much trouble. I was criticized for teasing her and treating her like anyone else. Being mean they said. But she liked me and I was one of the few that got a smile when I walked into the room. More than once, during group get together convos she would lean over to me and tell me something I felt truly profound. She was still very much awake in there and knew that I knew that so she made an effort to speak.

She is gone now.
