The VHS copy that I got my hands on a long time ago had white captions on a slightly blurry black & white copy. Black and white is probably not the ideal for using white captions! There were times on a pure white background that I was unable to read them.

The links above show that there is clearly a much better quality version out there today, probably easily found online, but perhaps not according to your post. Someone might have to take a trip to France to locate one.
