It took hundreds of years, maybe a thousand or two years, before gays became acceptable in western society. That was between two legally defined adults who's rights were well established in the law.

For "us" the established law is firmly directed against us. So, in a word, no. It just won't happen.

I wrote that short story (do you recall it?) where, in the end, the characters had exactly what you were describing as a wish. It would be nice. But, like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, reality hits you with... not only no, but hell no.

So, what to do?

Play within their rules (laws) and, if so desired, exceed the highway's speed limit with your eyes wide open and expect to get pulled over if your eyes aren't wide open or you accidentally miss something. Just keep in mind that, in this hypothetical parable, smashing into a tree and killing yourself is easy to accept. Hurting a loved one is not.
